March & April 2016 Update

March & April 2016 Update

In March and April…

–We welcomed three new members to Ethnos on March 13th.

–We celebrated African cultures on Palm Sunday, March 20th with a Nigerian worship team, a Kenyan preacher, an Ethiopian choir and a wonderful meal. You can listen to Pastor Albo’s sermon online.

–Our Servant Grace (outreach team) hosted a very successful Easter Egg Hunt outreach to the Hillside Community on Saturday, March 26th.  Over 50 children and 30 adults attended, heard the Gospel and celebrated together at Carver Park.  Thanks to our partner church, Northbrook who sent two men to help run the outreach.  Thanks also to Cru Inner City for the Easter Bags that we were able to give to the kids.

–Easter Sunday was a wonderful celebration with our adult choir
and children’s choir!

–God led Ethnos Church to meet at Carver Academy since our launch service September 2014. Carver is a struggling city-wide MPS school that has been under much scrutiny for years, and MPS has considered closing Carver. Even Brewer’s Hill (the neighborhood that houses Carver) is not supportive of the school and most of the children in that neighborhood do not attend Carver. In 2012 MPS joined forces with many other organizations and businesses to develop an education plan that would allow the students to succeed. You can read an article that was just released today hereEthnos has had the opportunity to connect with many teachers and staff at Carver, and there have been many testimonies that the atmosphere of Carver was directly impacted once Ethnos started holding services there. We’ve hosted events like a Teacher Appreciation Lunch each year in order continue to build a good relationship with the teachers and staff. We are learning firsthand of the battle that the staff at Carver faces each day. This is a picture of the city as a whole. Satan has a strong foothold on our city; He does not want to see our children succeeding and building a future for themselves; He does not want hope and joy to pervade our city. But God has already claimed the VICTORY! We must press on and press into the in-roads that the Lord opens before us. Like Ethnos is doing at Carver. We can trust God to continue to bring His light into dark places in the lives of the students, teachers and staff of Carver which will only spread His light to many other people beyond that.
